About the game

HATE is a brutal post-apocalyptic campaign game based on Adrian Smith's graphic novels, where up to six players lead savage clans fighting to survive in a decayed, hostile world. Through a multi-game Chronicle, clans plunder, mutilate, and demoralize rivals to gain savagery and resources, permanently losing warriors who die in battle. Players upgrade their village and warriors using worker placement and area-control tactics across a tile-based board. The player who accrues the most hate becomes the Tyrant and rules over the rest.

Hobbli's Notes

HATE leans hard into its grim-dark aesthetic, and the striking miniatures and Adrian Smith artwork back that up in a big way. The permanent death of clan members raises the stakes of every skirmish, giving the campaign real narrative weight across sessions. It's a heavier, mature-themed game that rewards a committed group willing to invest in its multi-game Chronicle structure. This is a strong pick for miniature-game fans wanting brutal, thematic combat rather than abstract euro strategy.

What we like

  • Striking miniatures and artwork based on Adrian Smith's graphic novels.
  • The permanent death mechanic raises real campaign stakes.
  • Combines worker placement with area-control combat.
  • The multi-game Chronicle structure builds an ongoing narrative.

Keep in mind

  • Mature, brutal theme won't suit all groups or ages.
  • Long two-hour sessions demand serious time commitment.
  • Miniature-heavy components add cost and setup complexity.
