About the game

A Game of Thrones: Catan - Brotherhood of the Watch reskins the classic Settlers of Catan formula with a Night's Watch theme, tasking three to four players with developing the Gift while defending the Wall from Wildling raids. Players gather resources from the land to build roads, settlements, and keeps, recruit guards to hold the Wall, and buy development cards, all while racing to ten victory points. A cooperative-tinged wrinkle means everyone must also balance defending against periodic Wildling attacks, since three breaches trigger an alternate loss condition. It's familiar Catan trading and building wrapped in a richly realized Game of Thrones setting.

Hobbli's Notes

This is a smart theme match for Catan's resource-trading core, and the added Wall-defense mechanic gives the usual formula a bit more shared tension between players. It leans heavily on knowing and enjoying base Catan, so it's less of a fit for players who haven't tried the original. As a licensed release it's largely out of print now, making it more of a fan-collection pickup than an easy new purchase.

What we like

  • Familiar, accessible Catan trading and building core.
  • Wall-defense mechanic adds shared tension beyond standard Catan.
  • Strong Game of Thrones theming with unique hero abilities.
  • Good production values typical of licensed Catan spinoffs.

Keep in mind

  • Best enjoyed by players already comfortable with base Catan mechanics.
  • Licensed theme may feel like a layer on top rather than deeply integrated.
  • Now largely out of print and harder to find new.

Who it's for
