About the game

One Deck Dungeon: Forest of Shadows is a standalone card-and-dice roguelike dungeon delve where every card represents both a foe and the reward for beating it. You build your character from scratch, tucking defeated cards under your character sheet as skills, items, or experience while the dungeon scales in difficulty the longer you explore. This expansion adds new heroes, dungeons, perils, and mechanisms like Poison, and can be played standalone or combined with the original for a hybrid experience. It's fast, tense, and endlessly replayable thanks to its shuffled deck of challenges.

Hobbli's Notes

A fantastic pick-up-and-play dungeon crawler that packs surprising tension into a single deck of cards. The dice-allocation puzzle scales beautifully whether you're playing solo or with a partner.

What we like

  • Excellent solo mode with genuine strategic depth.
  • Fast setup and quick individual sessions.
  • Variable heroes and dungeons add strong replayability.
  • Compact and travel-friendly components.

Keep in mind

  • Caps out at two players, limiting group appeal.
  • Dice rolling introduces significant luck swings.
  • Thin narrative framing compared to bigger dungeon crawlers.

Who it's for

Great for solo gamers or duos aged 14+ who want a quick, portable roguelike dungeon crawl.
