About the game
Batman: Gotham City Chronicles pits one player controlling a villain and their henchmen against a team of heroes across multiple scenarios. Heroes spend energy to perform melee and ranged attacks, defuse bombs, and use special abilities, with colored dice representing each hero's differing strengths. The villain activates a lineup of Batman universe characters from a command board, with costs shifting as characters are used. Built on the system from Conan, it's a miniatures-driven asymmetric skirmish game.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's editors appreciate the strong Batman license presentation and the reuse of the well-regarded Conan action system, adapted here with new dice types and a two-player Versus Mode.
What we like
- Strong Batman license with detailed miniatures.
- Flexible energy and stance system for hero actions.
- Asymmetric villain command board creates unique tactical choices.
- Scenario and campaign structure adds narrative depth.
Keep in mind
- Significant component and miniature overhead adds to cost and setup.
- 90-minute playtime plus setup can run long.
- One-versus-many format leaves the villain player facing the whole team alone.
Who it's for
Miniatures and skirmish game fans, Batman enthusiasts; ages 14+, groups of 2-4.
