About the game
Conan is a scenario-based, semi-cooperative miniatures game pitting one Overlord player against a team of heroes drawn from Robert E. Howard's sword-and-sorcery universe. Players clash across cinematic scenarios using highly detailed miniatures, energy-gem resource management, and asymmetric abilities. Each scenario plays out in about an hour, with objectives ranging from straightforward skirmishes to intricate multi-stage missions. Fans of tactical combat and pulp fantasy will find a lot to sink their teeth into.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's team loves the tactile thrill of Conan's oversized miniatures and the tense push-pull between the Overlord and the hero team. The energy-gem system for activating units and heroes injects a clever resource-management layer beneath the dice-chucking combat. It's not a deep strategy game, but as a themed skirmish experience it delivers big, cinematic moments. Setup and miniature assembly can be a barrier for some groups, so be ready to invest some prep time.
What we like
- Highly detailed miniatures bring the Conan universe vividly to life.
- The asymmetric Overlord-vs-heroes structure creates tense, cinematic battles.
- Scenarios can be played standalone or chained into a campaign for variety.
- The energy-gem activation system adds meaningful tactical choices.
Keep in mind
- One player must always play the Overlord, which some groups may find less appealing.
- Miniature assembly adds setup overhead.
- Player elimination can leave a hero sitting out mid-scenario.
Who it's for
Ages 14+, best suited to fans of fantasy miniature skirmish games who enjoy a mix of cooperative and competitive team play in groups of 2-5.
