About the game
Aeon's End: War Eternal is a standalone cooperative deck-building game in which players defend the last human city of Gravehold from otherworldly monsters called the Nameless. A cast of new mysterious characters brings unique abilities and powerful spells to fend off the horde. A variable turn-order system simulates the chaos of an attack, and careful deck management, including choosing exactly what to discard and when, sets Aeon's End apart from typical deck-builders. It can be played solo, with a partner, or combined with other Aeon's End content for even more variety.
Hobbli's Notes
War Eternal is a standout entry in the Aeon's End series thanks to its innovative variable turn order, which keeps players guessing about enemy timing. The deck management system, where players control their own discard pile, is a smart twist that rewards careful planning over blind shuffling. As a standalone title it's fully self-contained, making it an easy recommendation even for those new to the series. Cooperative deck-builder fans consistently rate it as one of the genre's best.
What we like
- Variable turn order adds unique tension to enemy attacks.
- Deck management with controlled discards rewards careful planning.
- Fully standalone, no other Aeon's End products required.
- Strong solo and two-player support.
Keep in mind
- High difficulty can lead to frequent losses for new groups.
- Deck management rules take a session to fully internalize.
- Card-based combat may feel abstract to players wanting a stronger theme.
Who it's for
Great for cooperative deck-building fans, ages 14 and up, in groups of one to four.
