About the game
Rise to Nobility is a dice- and worker-placement game for one to six players set in the fantasy city of Caveborn, where you build up your plot of land and rise from anonymity to lordship. Using dice as workers, you upgrade your territory, satisfy the settlers' council, and attract and house settlers as they progress from apprentices to guild masters. Set in the same world as Cavern Tavern, it blends city-building, economic development, and light variable powers across a fairly long, mid-heavy session. Your goal is to out-develop your rivals and eventually claim the head seat at the Stone Council.
Hobbli's Notes
The dice-as-workers approach gives this a slightly different feel from typical worker placement games, and the wide 1-6 player range is unusually flexible for a game of this weight. It asks for a real time investment though, and the high downtime score in the data suggests larger groups may feel some waiting between turns. Fans of the connected Cavern Tavern setting will likely appreciate the returning world-building.
What we like
- Wide 1-6 player range accommodates many group sizes.
- Rich fantasy narrative tied into the established Cavern Tavern universe.
- Combines dice rolling and worker placement for varied turn options.
- Strong sense of long-term progression as your settlement grows.
Keep in mind
- Long playtime for a mid-weight strategy game.
- Downtime can be noticeable in larger player counts.
- Complexity may overwhelm players new to worker-placement games.
Who it's for
Good for strategy gamers age 14+ who enjoy worker-placement city-building games, especially in groups already familiar with Cavern Tavern.
