About the game
In The King's Guild, the aging king of Greycastle is near death, and guild leaders must prove their worth to claim the throne. Players craft powerful equipment, send heroes on quests for treasure, and upgrade their guild with unique specialists and rooms, choosing one action each turn to grow their influence. Prestige earned from quests, specialists, rooms, and collected treasures determines who ultimately becomes the King's Guild. Supporting 1-6 players in about 120 minutes, it combines hand management, set collection, and variable player powers in a fantasy setting.
Hobbli's Notes
A solid mid-weight fantasy strategy game that supports an unusually high player count for its complexity. The variable player powers give each guild real personality, though it hasn't built the wider following of some of its higher-profile fantasy-strategy peers.
What we like
- Supports up to 6 players in a genuine strategy game.
- Variable player powers create asymmetric guild strategies.
- Combines crafting, questing, and guild-building in one system.
- Includes a solo mode.
Keep in mind
- Lesser-known title with a smaller player community.
- Complexity can slow down play at higher player counts.
- 120-minute runtime can stretch longer with new players.
Who it's for
Good for fantasy strategy fans aged 14 and up looking for a mid-to-heavy game that scales up to 6 players, including solo play.
