About the game
Champions of Midgard is a Viking-themed worker-placement game with dice combat, in which players lead clans that have traveled to a besieged harbor town to fight off trolls, draugr, and other Norse monsters. Placing workers around the town lets players gather resources and warriors, which can then be sent on journeys to nearby villages or across the sea to battle epic creatures for glory and the favor of the gods. Resources fuel rune-carving, ship-building, and feeding followers, while custom combat dice determine the outcome of clashes with fearsome monsters. Whoever accumulates the most glory by game's end is crowned Jarl and champion of Midgard.
Hobbli's Notes
Champions of Midgard blends worker placement with genuinely exciting dice-based monster battles, giving it more teeth than many euro-style worker-placement games. The Norse mythology theme comes through strongly in both art and mechanics, and the multiple paths to glory keep strategies varied across plays. It's a solid mid-weight pick for groups who want strategic depth with a bit of combat flavor.
