About the game
Power Grid: The Card Game condenses the classic Power Grid experience into a fast, mapless card game for 2 to 6 players. As rival power company CEOs, you bid at auction for power plants and buy up resources to fuel them, then see whose network generates the most electricity each round. A clever two-player Trust mechanism keeps duels just as tense as full table games. At 60 minutes it delivers the same auction tension and resource math as its board game siblings in a more portable package. It's a great entry point into the Power Grid family without needing a map.
Hobbli's Notes
This is Power Grid distilled to its purest auction-and-resource-management core, and we love it for that. It plays faster than the original without losing the nail-biting bidding wars that make the series great. The two-player Trust variant is a smart touch that keeps smaller games from feeling thin. It's not a good fit if you're hoping for the map-based route building of the full game, but as a quick economic strategy fix, it delivers.
What we like
- Delivers the classic Power Grid tension in a shorter, more portable format.
- Solid two-player mode thanks to the Trust mechanic.
- Auction and resource-buying decisions remain genuinely tight.
- Quick setup and teardown compared to the full board game.
Keep in mind
- Lacks the map and route-building variety of the original Power Grid.
- Card-game presentation feels less thematic than the board version.
- Auction-heavy design won't appeal to players who dislike bidding games.
Who it's for
Fans of economic and auction games ages 12+, especially existing Power Grid players wanting a faster fix; works well in groups of 2-6 who enjoy tight resource math.
