About the game
Dokmus is an abstract strategy game where players lead their tribe on a shifting island in search of favor from the ancestral god Dokmus. Each round, players draft Guardian cards that determine turn order and grant special powers to move, sacrifice, or place tokens on the ever-changing island map. Randomized double-sided map tiles and player-driven terrain changes mean the board layout constantly evolves during play. Victory points come from discovered temples, ruins, and sacrificed tokens at the volcano.
Hobbli's Notes
Dokmus stands out for its dynamic, self-modifying board, which keeps the game feeling fresh turn to turn. The Guardian-drafting system elegantly ties together turn order and special powers, forcing players to weigh timing against ability. It's an intriguing take on area-majority and territory-building for players who like an abstract mythological wrapper. The moderate complexity and 40-minute runtime make it approachable for regular strategy game nights.
