About the game
The Godfather: Corleone's Empire is a standalone worker-placement game where competing mafia families vie for control of organized crime in New York City. Players deploy their thugs, don, wife, and heir to shake down businesses and battle for turf, using a limited hand of money, racket, and contract cards to fuel their empire. At the end of five rounds, whoever has amassed the most cash wins, with dramatic drive-by shootings removing enemy influence from the board along the way. High-quality miniatures and a tense, confrontational structure make this a standout in designer Eric Lang's 'dudes on a map' catalog.
Hobbli's Notes
This is streamlined, aggressive worker placement dressed up in excellent mob-movie theming: the drive-by shooting mechanic is a great example of how the game leans into confrontation rather than avoiding it. Great for groups who like their euro-style games with teeth.
What we like
- Strong mafia theming reinforced by high-quality miniatures.
- Tense area-control worker placement with real teeth.
- Meaningful hand management around limited card tribute each round.
- Satisfying direct player interaction through drive-by removal.
Keep in mind
- Can be swingy and brutal with heavy take-that elements.
- Small hand size can frustrate careful long-term planning.
- Requires significant table space for the board and miniatures.
Who it's for
Best for adults and mature teens (14+) who enjoy tense, confrontational worker-placement games, in groups of 2-5.
