About the game
La Granja: No Siesta is a standalone dice game spun off from the acclaimed farming game La Granja, distilled down to its dice-drafting core. Each round, players roll and draft dice to cross resources off their personal scoring sheet, hire helper cards for special effects, and build a barn for storage. The pace is lighter and quicker than the original, running about 45 minutes for one to four players. The game ends once a player completes their siesta track, and whoever gathered resources most efficiently wins.
Hobbli's Notes
This is a great example of taking the best mechanism from a heavier Euro game and turning it into a tight, fast-playing standalone. The dice-drafting-and-crossing-off gameplay scratches a similar itch to roll-and-write games while keeping some of La Granja's flavor. It's light enough for a lunch break but has enough decisions to satisfy Euro gamers looking for a filler. We especially like that it plays solo just as well as with a full table.
What we like
- Fast, accessible spin-off of a beloved farming game.
- Works equally well solo or with a group.
- Quick setup and short 45-minute playtime.
- Clever dice-drafting mechanism with real decisions.
Keep in mind
- Less thematic depth than the full La Granja game.
- Paper-and-pencil scoring can feel a bit dry.
- Dice luck plays a bigger role than in the original.
Who it's for
A good fit for fans of light Euro and roll-and-write games, playable solo or with up to four players, ages 10 and up.
