About the game

Secret Hitler is a tense social deduction game of political intrigue set in 1930s Germany. Players are secretly assigned to liberal or fascist teams, with one fascist player designated as Secret Hitler, who doesn't know his own teammates. Each round, an elected President and Chancellor enact policies drawn from a shared deck, and the group must figure out whether failures are bad luck or deliberate sabotage. As fascist policies accumulate, dangerous government powers come into play, raising the stakes further. It's a gripping game of bluffing, accusation, and hidden loyalty for larger groups.

Hobbli's Notes

Secret Hitler is a standout hidden-role game: the tension of not knowing who to trust, combined with escalating government powers, creates genuinely dramatic table talk. It handles larger groups better than many deduction games, making it a great party centerpiece. Players who are eliminated or on the losing side can experience real downtime, so it's best enjoyed by a group that stays engaged throughout. The weighty historical theme is played for dramatic effect rather than realism, which is worth knowing going in.

What we like

  • Tense social deduction with high player interaction.
  • Clever hidden-role mechanics create memorable bluffing moments.
  • Relatively quick to teach given the depth of intrigue.
  • Scales well for larger groups of five to ten.

Keep in mind

  • Noticeable downtime for players who are eliminated or inactive.
  • Can create real interpersonal tension among friends.
  • Heavy historical theme may not suit every audience.
  • Needs a full, engaged table to really shine.
