About the game
The Others casts one player as a monstrous Deadly Sin unleashing hell on the city of Haven, while the rest control a team of FAITH heroes fighting to survive and complete branching missions. Heroes specialize as Leaders, Bruisers, Snipers, or Fixers, each with unique stats and abilities, and can embrace Corruption for powerful bonuses at the risk of being consumed by it. The Sin player commands unique monsters, an Avatar of Sin, and corrupted Acolytes, using a tailored card deck to hinder and destroy the heroes. Seven branching stories, Terror, Corruption, and Redemption, combine with modular city-district boards for wildly different sessions each time. It's an intense, richly produced asymmetric horror miniatures game from designer Eric M. Lang.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's team rates The Others highly for its atmosphere and asymmetric tension: the Sin player genuinely feels like an unstoppable force while heroes scramble to adapt. The corruption mechanic is a clever double-edged sword, giving heroes power at real narrative and mechanical risk. Miniature quality and thematic production are excellent, though the game demands a serious time and rules investment. Team-based asymmetric play works best with a dedicated group willing to learn both sides.
What we like
- Strong asymmetric tension between the Sin player and hero team.
- Corruption mechanic offers meaningful risk-reward choices.
- Seven branching stories and modular boards add huge replay variety.
- High-quality miniatures and thematic production.
Keep in mind
- Rules overhead and setup are significant for new groups.
- Requires a full, dedicated group including someone willing to play the Sin.
- Long playtime and high downtime for some player roles.
Who it's for
Best suited to horror and asymmetric-game fans aged 12-14+ who enjoy team-based cooperative-versus-one play, in groups of 2-5.
