About the game

In King's Forge, players take on the role of craftsmen competing to become the King's favorite by forging four items from a list of coveted weapons and trinkets. Colorful dice represent raw materials - metal, wood, gems, and enchantment - that can be rolled, saved, or spent to buy roll-modifying upgrades. Careful dice management and forward planning are essential, since rivals can out-maneuver you at any moment. It's a fantasy-themed race full of tension, since an early lead is never a guaranteed win.

Hobbli's Notes

King's Forge scratches the dice-collection itch nicely, layering just enough resource-conversion strategy on top of pure luck to keep it interesting. We like that no player is ever fully locked out of catching up, which keeps the table engaged until the final craft. It won't wow hardcore strategy gamers, but it's a satisfying, tactile mid-weight option for a fantasy-loving group.

What we like

  • Distinct dice types create satisfying resource-management puzzles.
  • Rubber-band mechanics keep every player in contention until the end.
  • Fantasy crafting theme is accessible and easy to grasp.
  • Scales cleanly from 2 to 4 players.

Keep in mind

  • Heavy reliance on dice rolls can undercut careful planning.
  • Can run long with four players due to increased competition for materials.
