About the game

A Game of Thrones: The Board Game (Second Edition) is an epic game of diplomacy and warfare set in George R.R. Martin's Westeros, where three to six players command Great Houses vying for the Iron Throne. Each round mixes secret order placement, area control, and card-driven combat, with negotiation and shifting alliances at the heart of every decision. Expanded content from multiple expansions is folded into this edition, along with Tides of Battle cards that add tense unpredictability to combat.

Hobbli's Notes

This is one of the great negotiation-and-conflict epics on the market - promises made in the Planning Phase are never binding, and the best games are full of memorable betrayals. It demands a serious time investment and a group willing to embrace diplomacy as much as combat, but few games deliver that shifting-alliances feeling so well.

What we like

  • Rich diplomacy and negotiation drive every round.
  • Deep area-control and combat systems reward planning.
  • Strong licensed theme brought vividly to life.
  • Tides of Battle cards add tense unpredictability.

Keep in mind

  • Very long playtime often exceeding four hours.
  • High player count increases downtime and complexity.
  • Player elimination can sideline someone before the game ends.
  • Steep rules overhead for new players.

Who it's for

Best for ages 14+, fans of political negotiation and area-control wargames, in groups of 3-6 with several hours to commit.
