About the game
Super Dungeon Explore is a cooperative-vs-one dungeon crawler featuring adorably chibi, super-deformed fantasy miniatures. One to five players take on classic hero roles like a human paladin, dwarf fighter, or elf ranger, while one player controls the Dark Consul and commands an ever-growing horde of dungeon monsters. Heroes explore modular dungeon boards, battling monsters, collecting loot, and eventually spawning and defeating a dungeon boss, while the Dark Consul tries to wipe out the heroes first. Its distinctive art style and asymmetric team-vs-one structure set it apart from typical dungeon crawlers.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's team enjoys Super Dungeon Explore for its charming, distinctive chibi aesthetic: it stands out visually from the usual grim-and-gritty dungeon crawler crowd. The asymmetric hero-team-versus-Dark-Consul structure creates a fun push-and-pull dynamic that keeps both sides engaged. It does run long and needs real table space for the modular boards, so it's best suited to a dedicated game night rather than a quick session. A great pick for miniature-loving groups who want a lighter tone than typical dungeon crawlers.
What we like
- Charming super-deformed miniatures with strong production values.
- Asymmetric hero-vs-Dark-Consul gameplay creates dynamic tension.
- Modular dungeon boards add variety between sessions.
- Accessible action-point system that's easy to teach.
- Strong cooperative feel among the hero team.
Keep in mind
- Long 120-minute playtime can drag in some groups.
- The Dark Consul player may feel overpowered against a full hero team.
- Assembling and organizing many miniatures takes setup time.
- Requires significant table space for the modular dungeon boards.
Who it's for
Great for dungeon-crawler and miniatures fans who enjoy asymmetric team play, ages 10 and up, in groups of 2-6.
