About the game
Polis: Fight for the Hegemony is a two-player civilization wargame set at the dawn of the Peloponnesian War, pitting Athens and the Delian League against Sparta and its allies. Players manage territories, trade goods like wheat, wine, and silver, fight for control of key poleis, and build Prestige through temples, statues, and diplomacy. Hoplites and triremes contest land and sea while alliances with independent city-states shift the balance of power. It blends economic management with ancient military conflict.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's editors see this as a dense, rewarding two-player wargame for those willing to learn its many interlocking systems. The mix of trade routes, sieges, and diplomatic persuasion gives it more texture than a typical area-control game. It asks a lot of new players in terms of rules overhead, though. Dedicated ancient-history wargamers should find plenty to like here.
What we like
- Deep asymmetric two-player civilization building.
- Rich resource and trade management alongside military conflict.
- Strong historical theme rooted in the Peloponnesian War era.
- Multiple paths to victory through diplomacy or force.
Keep in mind
- Long two-hour playtime with a steep rules learning curve.
- Niche appeal limited mostly to dedicated wargamers.
- Strictly limited to exactly two players.
Who it's for
Best for two experienced strategy gamers with an interest in ancient history and a taste for long, rules-heavy sessions.
