About the game

No Retreat! The Russian Front is a deluxe two-player wargame retelling the epic struggle between Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia on the Eastern Front of WWII. Combining the original game with its two expansions in one box, it uses low counter density and hex-based movement for a card-driven simulation that plays faster than its scope suggests. Event cards inject surprise on top of classic hex-and-counter strategy, as players fight to win through multiple victory paths over an epic four-year timeline. Neither side can afford to yield ground: your orders are simply, no retreat.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli regards this as a serious wargamer's title: deep, historically grounded, and rewarding for those willing to invest the time. The blend of classic hex wargaming with card-driven events gives it more variety than pure CRT wargames, but it's still a multi-hour commitment strictly for two players. Not for casual tables, but a standout for the wargaming crowd.

What we like

  • Deep, historically grounded WWII Eastern Front simulation.
  • Card-driven events add tension and strategic depth.
  • Manageable counter density keeps it quicker than its scope implies.
  • Deluxe components elevate the overall experience.

Keep in mind

  • Very long playtime (up to 6 hours) requires serious commitment.
  • Strictly a two-player game.
  • Steep learning curve for newcomers to card-driven wargames.
  • Heavy historical focus may not suit casual gamers.

Who it's for

Ideal for two dedicated wargamers, ages 14+, who enjoy long, historically detailed card-driven strategy games.
