About the game

Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of Ashardalon Board Game sends 1-5 players into a monster-infested dungeon beneath a smoking, lava-spewing spire, hunting for a legendary red dragon. Each hero, rogue, thief, warrior, cleric, or wizard, explores tile by tile, revealing new chambers, fighting monsters, and collecting treasure and experience to level up. Cooperative play and modular dungeon tiles mean every session offers a different layout and challenge, with several scenarios and quest goals included. Dice rolling drives combat and encounters, while variable player powers keep each hero's playstyle distinct. It integrates with other games in the D&D board game line for even more content.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's team enjoys Wrath of Ashardalon as an easy-entry dungeon crawler: tile-by-tile exploration keeps the sense of discovery alive every game. Cooperative play and simple dice-based combat make it very approachable for families and non-roleplayers curious about D&D. It doesn't have the narrative depth of a full tabletop RPG, but it delivers solid dungeon-crawling thrills in a tight hour. Compatibility with the wider D&D board game line adds long-term expansion potential.

What we like

  • Tile-based exploration creates a real sense of dungeon discovery.
  • Fully cooperative, so everyone plays together against the game.
  • Easy to learn for players unfamiliar with tabletop RPGs.
  • Compatible with other games in the D&D board game series.

Keep in mind

  • Combat resolution is fairly simple compared to a full RPG.
  • Can suffer from repetitive tile draws and monster encounters over many plays.
  • Some downtime while other players resolve their turns.

Who it's for

Great for families and casual dungeon-crawl fans aged 10+ who want light RPG flavor without a game master, playable solo or with up to five players.
