About the game
Clash of Cultures is a civilization-building game where players guide a fledgling settlement into a mighty empire through exploration, city growth, technology research, and conquest. A modular board is revealed as players explore, while a flexible "tech tree" of roughly 48 advances allows for many different paths of development. Cities grow through specialized buildings, ports, forts, temples, academies, rather than generic upgrades, and civilizations can pursue victory through cities, advances, objectives, wonders, or events. It's an epic-scope civilization game playable in a fraction of the time of older classics in the genre.
Hobbli's Notes
Clash of Cultures does an excellent job compressing the sprawling civilization-game experience into a more manageable (if still lengthy) playtime without sacrificing meaningful choices. The flexible tech tree and varied victory paths keep games from feeling formulaic, and the specialized city-building adds welcome texture. This is a serious undertaking for a dedicated group, but a rewarding one for fans of the civ-building genre.
