About the game

Arkadia tasks players with building the city and castle of Arkadia, placing houses that carry the seal of one of four ruling families. Seals can later be traded for victory points, but their value shifts as the game progresses, adding a layer of timing to every build. The castle grows alongside the city and doubles as the game's built-in timer, ending the game once its second layer is complete. It's a tile-placement and area-influence design from designer Rüdiger Dorn.

Hobbli's Notes

An elegant, lesser-known Essen release from a reliably clever designer: the fluctuating seal values give the tile placement real tension, though the theme stays fairly dry and abstract throughout.

What we like

  • Clever fluctuating seal-value mechanic adds timing decisions.
  • Satisfying tile placement with a growing castle centerpiece.
  • Built-in game timer keeps sessions tightly paced.
  • Tight decision space rewards careful planning.

Keep in mind

  • Theme is fairly dry and abstract.
  • Can be harder to find compared to more recent titles.
  • Limited player interaction beyond seal competition.

Who it's for

Euro strategy gamers, best with 2-4 players who enjoy medium-weight tile placement and area influence.
