About the game
Ticket to Ride: Märklin brings the beloved train-route drafting franchise to a map of Germany, with each card in the deck illustrated with a real Märklin model train. As a heavier entry in the Ticket to Ride series, it adds passenger and merchandise tokens that reward players for reaching cities quickly, since token values shrink the more that gather there. Players still collect matching train cards to claim routes, but here they can also expand from cities into whole countries. Completing the most destination tickets earns a bonus instead of the classic longest-route award. It's a meatier, more strategic take on the classic formula for TTR fans wanting extra depth.
Hobbli's Notes
Märklin is the 'gamer's Ticket to Ride': the added passenger and merchandise mechanics genuinely change the calculus of route-building compared to the original game. It's a great pick for groups who already love Ticket to Ride and are ready to graduate to a heavier variant. The Märklin train branding is a nice touch for model-train enthusiasts, even without the bundled DVD in recent printings.
What we like
- Passenger and merchandise tokens add meaningful new strategic depth.
- Retains the accessible, beloved core of the Ticket to Ride formula.
- Expanding into whole countries opens new route-planning options.
- Attractive Märklin train illustrations add thematic charm.
Keep in mind
- Heavier ruleset may not appeal to fans of the lighter base game.
- Passenger movement adds bookkeeping that can slow the pace.
- Standalone Germany map may feel less iconic than other TTR editions.
Who it's for
Best for ages 8 and up, and Ticket to Ride fans in groups of 2-5 looking for a heavier variant.
