About the game

Set in 1848, this entry in the Pandemic series casts players as nurses, railwaymen, rural doctors, and sailors racing to distribute purified water, build railways, and find cures for malaria, typhus, yellow fever, and cholera across the Iberian Peninsula. Players travel between Barcelona, Lisboa, and other cities by carriage, boat, or train, cooperating to treat outbreaks before they spiral out of control. Optional variants add flocking patient behavior at hospitals or give each disease its own unique historical effect. Like other games in the Pandemic series, the team wins together or loses together against a rising tide of infection.

Hobbli's Notes

This is a smart, historically-flavored spin on the classic Pandemic formula, with the added railway-building layer giving players a new lever to manage the spreading outbreaks. It's an easy sell for anyone who already loves the base Pandemic system and wants a fresh setting and mechanical twist. As with all Pandemic games, it lives or dies on a good group dynamic: a dominant player can suck the fun out of the shared decision-making.

What we like

  • The railway-building layer adds a fresh twist to the familiar Pandemic system.
  • The historical 1848 Iberian setting gives the theme real texture.
  • Solo play is supported for fans who want to play alone.
  • Optional variants let groups tune the challenge and disease behavior.

Keep in mind

  • A dominant player can end up quarterbacking group decisions.
  • Difficulty swings can feel unfair depending on card draws.
  • The core loop will feel very familiar to Pandemic veterans.
  • Shorter playtime may feel light for players wanting a meatier strategy game.

Who it's for

Great for families and casual cooperative-game fans ages 8+ who already enjoy the Pandemic series, in groups of 2-5.
