About the game
Antike is a strategy game of ancient civilizations competing for dominance through science, trade, and military conquest. Using Mac Gerdts' signature rondel system, players guide their chosen ancient nation to build cities, temples, and fleets while racing to attract a set number of legendary historical figures to their cause. Two double-sided boards offer different scenario setups, and armies and navies can be used to conquer rival cities and destroy their temples. With no dice or cards involved, victory depends entirely on strategic planning and skillful maneuvering. It's a foundational entry in the rondel genre of euro strategy games.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's team regards Antike as a classic example of Mac Gerdts' elegant rondel mechanism, which cleanly ties together economy, expansion, and military action. The lack of randomness means outcomes hinge purely on tactical and strategic skill, appealing to serious euro gamers. At higher player counts, downtime can grow substantial as everyone plans their rondel movements. It's a meatier ancient civilization game that rewards players who enjoy planning several turns ahead.
