About the game

Wings of War: Burning Drachens is the third set in the classic Wings of War WWI dogfighting series, adding planes like the Nieuport 17-23, Albatros D.III, and Pfalz D.III/IIIa. It introduces optional altitude rules, anti-aircraft guns, and machine guns, plus incendiary bullets and Le Prieur rockets for solo and two-player balloon-busting scenarios. The simultaneous action-queue system stays simple, letting players jump straight into fast WWI air combat. It's fully compatible with other sets in the collection for larger battles.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's team likes how the Wings of War system keeps dogfighting quick and intuitive without sacrificing tactical maneuvering. Burning Drachens' balloon-hunting scenarios add a nice change of pace from standard dogfights. As a standalone two-player set it's a fantastic quick-play wargame, though it truly shines when combined with other sets in the line.

What we like

  • Adds new planes and balloon-busting scenarios to the Wings of War line.
  • Short playtime is ideal for quick sessions.
  • Compatible with other sets for larger scenario battles.

Keep in mind

  • Base set is strictly limited to two players.
