About the game

Duel of Meloch is a standalone head-to-head game that combines Scythe and Expeditions into a single 45-minute clash: one player fights with Scythe's faction and mech, the other with Expeditions' character and companion. As long as one player knows Scythe and the other knows Expeditions, nothing else is needed to play. The duel unfolds across a tight, double-sided map with only a handful of locations, keeping the standoff close and tense throughout.

Hobbli's Notes

Duel of Meloch is a clever crossover experiment: one player fights with Scythe's faction and mech system, the other with Expeditions' character and companion system, meeting in the middle on a new double-sided map. It only works if each player already knows their respective game, which narrows the audience considerably, but for two Scythe-and-Expeditions fans it delivers a tight, tense 45-minute duel that neither base game can offer alone. The asymmetry between two entirely different rule sets is a genuinely novel design idea, even if it means the box can't be picked up cold by newcomers to either game.

What we like

  • Genuinely novel asymmetric design pairing two different rule systems against each other.
  • Tight 45-minute playtime delivers a focused, high-tension duel.
  • Small double-sided map keeps the confrontation intense and close-quarters.
  • Works as a standalone game requiring nothing but the box itself.

Keep in mind

  • Requires prior familiarity with both Scythe and Expeditions to fully appreciate.
  • Two-player-only design limits it to a narrow group size.
  • Asymmetry between the two rule sets could favor one side if not well balanced.

Who it's for

Best for existing Scythe and Expeditions fans looking for a tense head-to-head duel, ages 14+, for exactly 2 players.
