About the game
Formaggio casts players as Italian cheesemakers in the early 20th century, aging and selling artisanal cheeses to become the region's most prestigious creamery. As a standalone expansion to Fromage, it adds four new board quadrants featuring mini-games like pairing cheese with wine or selling along Venetian canals. Players simultaneously place workers on their facing quadrant, then watch the board rotate to age their cheese and reveal a new set of choices. Prestige points come from selling cheese and efficiently managing your creamery's upgrades. It supports 1 to 4 players in about 45 minutes.
Hobbli's Notes
Formaggio's rotating simultaneous worker-placement board is a clever way to keep every player engaged at once, and the cheese theme is executed with real charm and specificity. Combining it with Fromage promises even more variety, which is a nice touch for an expansion-style release. As a very recent release, we haven't yet seen how it holds up across many plays, so consider it a promising newcomer rather than a proven classic. A tasty pick for euro-game fans looking for something a little different.
What we like
- Charming cheese-making theme with a satisfying production chain.

- Rotating board quadrants create fresh puzzles each round.
- Combinable with Fromage for added variety and replayability.
Keep in mind
- As a standalone expansion, full variety needs the base game.
- Moderate complexity requires some rules teaching.
- Very new release with a limited long-term track record.
Who it's for
Good for euro-gamers and foodie-themed game fans (ages 14+) who enjoy simultaneous worker placement with a light production/economic focus.
