About the game

Ayar: Children of the Sun retells the Inca origin myth in a mid-weight eurogame where one to four players guide clans traveling the Andes alongside the Ayar siblings. Players develop skills in farming, pottery, weaving, and reed bundling through worker placement and tile placement, while also steering the Ayar's progress across a shared board. Success requires balancing the favor of two rival gods, Mama Quilla and Inti, since whichever deity favors you least determines your final score. It's a thematically rich strategy game built around area influence, set collection, and careful long-term planning.

Hobbli's Notes

This looks like a smartly designed mid-weight euro, with the dual-god scoring tension being a genuinely interesting twist that forces players to hedge across two different strategic paths at once. As a newer 2025 release from designers with strong pedigree in the genre, we're still building a full picture of how it plays at the table over repeated sessions. The Andean mythological theme and Ian O'Toole artwork should make it a visually striking addition to any strategy collection.

What we like

  • Dual-god scoring system creates meaningful long-term strategic tension.
  • Strong thematic integration of Inca mythology into the mechanics.
  • Solid solo mode alongside 2-4 player competitive play.
  • Striking artwork and production from a well-regarded design team.

Keep in mind

  • High complexity may be intimidating for casual players.
  • As a new release, long-term table feedback is still limited.
  • Worker placement conflicts can slow down turns in full player counts.

Who it's for
