About the game
Wyrmspan reimagines the beloved Wingspan formula with dragons instead of birds, tasking players with excavating an underground sanctuary and enticing dragons to roost within it. Each dragon card grants unique, chainable abilities across three resource tracks, the Crimson Cavern, Golden Grotto, and Amethyst Abyss, building increasingly powerful combos as your sanctuary grows. Designed as a standalone game, Wyrmspan carries over Wingspan's elegant engine-building appeal with new excavation and card-synergy mechanics. It's a beautifully illustrated game about building a haven for fantastical creatures.
Hobbli's Notes
Wyrmspan takes everything players loved about Wingspan's card-engine building and gives it fresh mechanical texture with excavation and resource tracks unique to the dragon theme. It manages to feel familiar to Wingspan fans while offering enough new decisions to stand on its own. The gorgeous art and satisfying combo-building make it an easy recommendation for engine-builder enthusiasts, though as a newer release we're still gathering plays to judge its lasting depth.
What we like
- Satisfying card-chaining engine-building similar to Wingspan.
- Beautiful art and thematic dragon presentation.
- Strong solo mode alongside multiplayer.
- Standalone design means no need to own the original Wingspan.
Keep in mind
- Some cards may feel stronger than others, leading to imbalance.
- Can feel similar enough to Wingspan that fans may find it redundant.
- Turn options can create mild analysis paralysis for new players.
Who it's for
Great for engine-building fans aged 14+ who enjoyed Wingspan, playable solo or in groups up to five.
