About the game

Cascadero is a tile-placement strategy game from designer Reiner Knizia, where players guide four ministers to reunite a fractured kingdom. Envoys are placed adjacent to towns, triggering scoring only when grouped or backed by an official seal, encouraging clever chains and combos. Players race up success columns to unlock bonuses like extra points, repositioned envoys, or bonus turns. The game ends when a player reaches fifty points or the tile supply runs dry, with success-column completion required for victory.

Hobbli's Notes

We appreciate the tension between building long chains versus smaller, well-timed groups: it's a classic Knizia puzzle of competing paths to victory. The combo-triggering can feel a little fiddly to track at first. Once it clicks, though, it offers a rewarding, replayable strategic puzzle.

What we like

  • Clever chain-and-group scoring mechanic with real depth.
  • High replayability from variable board and tile setups.
  • Two competing strategic paths keep decisions interesting.
  • Strong production and acclaimed designer pedigree.

Keep in mind

  • Scoring interactions can be tricky to track for new players.
  • Moderate playtime and complexity may not suit casual groups.

Who it's for
