About the game
A fast, real-time sci-fi tabletop shooter where players physically aim spaceship tiles and snap a smartphone photo, letting a companion app calculate the battle results. Each of 8 rounds has every player placing a ship simultaneously, aiming at enemies and asteroids while courting sponsor bonuses in a glowing arena setting. The blend of dexterity, real-time chaos, and app-assisted scoring makes for a quick, energetic party experience. A manual scoring option is also included for players without the app.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's editors find Light Speed: Arena's photo-based dexterity mechanic a genuinely novel idea - physically aiming your tiles feels tactile and fun in a way few games replicate. At just 15 minutes, it's an ideal quick, high-energy filler for game nights or parties. The sci-fi arena theme and simultaneous play keep tension and laughs high throughout. Reliance on a companion app (even with a manual option) may be a turnoff for some groups.
What we like
- Innovative photo-based dexterity mechanic.
- Very short 15-minute playtime.
- High-energy simultaneous real-time play.
- Includes manual scoring for non-app play.
Keep in mind
- Relies on a companion app for the full experience.
- Dexterity element may frustrate less steady-handed players.
- Limited strategic depth beyond aiming.
Who it's for
Casual and party gamers who enjoy dexterity and real-time chaos, ages 8+, great for groups of 2-4.
