About the game
Stonespine Architects casts 1-5 players as minotaur dungeon architects competing to carve the most perilous labyrinth into the Stonespine Mountains. Through simultaneous card drafting, players expand their dungeons chamber by chamber, mapping paths, placing key elements, and hunting for treasure according to a personal blueprint and shifting scoring challenges. Gold earned between rounds lets you customize your labyrinth with monsters, traps, and secret passages. After four rounds of construction, the player with the most fiendish dungeon earns the title of Master Architect. It's a clever, tableau-building drafting game with a fun dark-fantasy twist on city-building mechanics.
Hobbli's Notes
We like how Stonespine Architects flips the usual city-building formula on its head: you're rewarded for building the most dangerous space rather than the most prosperous one. The simultaneous drafting keeps downtime low while still leaving room for tricky blueprint optimization. As a fairly new release, we haven't accumulated the depth of plays needed to fully judge its long-term replayability, so we're cautiously optimistic rather than certain. The dark, whimsical dungeon theme is a fun, distinctive hook.
What we like
- Fun, distinctive dark-fantasy dungeon-building theme.
- Simultaneous drafting keeps downtime relatively low.
- Flexible scoring paths (pathing, key elements, treasure) offer strategic variety.
- Solo mode included for flexible play.
Keep in mind
- As a newer release, long-term replay depth is still being established.
- Simultaneous play can create occasional card-choice conflicts to resolve.
- Multiple scoring avenues may feel busy for new players.
Who it's for
Good for card-drafting and tableau-building fans aged 10+ who enjoy fantasy themes with a dark twist, in groups of up to five.
