About the game
Archeos Society sends players to lead expeditions into legendary archaeological sites, choosing between small, fast-moving teams or larger, more efficient ones. On each turn, players either recruit a new explorer or launch an expedition by playing matching cards from their hand, with their expedition leader determining the region explored and granting a special ability. Any unplayed cards left over after an expedition become available for opponents to recruit, adding a sharp resource-tension layer to every decision. Players balance recruiting new team members against racing to accumulate valuable discoveries before their rivals. It's a card-driven set-collection game with genuine push-your-luck tension.
Hobbli's Notes
The mechanic of leaving your leftover cards available to opponents creates constant, interesting tension: you're never quite sure if going big is worth the risk. Designer Paolo Mori has a good track record with clever, accessible euro designs, and this one fits that mold nicely. Great for groups that enjoy careful hand-management with a competitive edge.
What we like
- Clever push-your-luck expedition building with real risk/reward.
- Card drafting creates tension since leftovers help opponents.
- Supports large groups of up to six players.
- Exploration theme with satisfying discovery mechanics.
Keep in mind
- Giving opponents access to unplayed cards can punish new players.
- Moderate downtime as players plan expeditions.
- Available card luck can swing early-game options.
Who it's for
Good for strategy-minded players ages 12 and up in groups of 2-6 who enjoy card drafting and set collection.
