About the game
Splendor Duel is a two-player standalone reimplementation of the popular Splendor, adding new tactical depth to the original gem-collecting formula. Players take gem and pearl tokens from a shared board to purchase development cards, earn special privileges, and pursue royal favors. With three distinct victory conditions and card powers layered onto the classic engine-building core, Splendor Duel is faster, meaner, and more interactive than its predecessor. It's a tense head-to-head race for prestige.
Hobbli's Notes
Splendor Duel takes the elegant simplicity of Splendor and sharpens it into a genuinely tense two-player duel, adding just enough new mechanisms, pearls, card powers, multiple win conditions, without losing the original's approachability. It plays quickly enough for repeat sessions in one sitting, making it a great choice for couples or quick rematches. Fans of the original will appreciate the added strategic layers, though it loses some of Splendor's relaxed, multiplayer-friendly feel.
What we like
- Fast-playing with high strategic depth for its length.
- Multiple victory conditions create varied strategic paths.
- Sharper, more interactive than the original Splendor.
- Compact and easy to teach to new players.
Keep in mind
- Strictly two-player only, unlike the original's flexible player count.
- Increased complexity may not appeal to fans of the simpler original.
- Card power interactions can create early snowballing.
Who it's for
Perfect for two players aged 10+ looking for a quick, tense strategy duel, from casual couples to competitive gamers.
