About the game

Shake That City is a fast-playing puzzle game where players build out a thriving city block using patterns revealed by the game's unique 'Cube Shaker' tool. Each round, the active player shakes the device to reveal a 3x3 pattern and places matching building tiles (roads, factories, homes, parks, or shops) of a chosen color, while other players mimic the pattern with a different color. Smart placement matters, since roads want board edges, factories cluster together, homes prefer small clusters, and shops score more near the city center. With simultaneous building for 1-4 players in under an hour, it's an accessible city-building puzzle for the whole family.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's editorial team loves the tactile novelty of the Cube Shaker gadget, which makes pattern generation feel like part of the fun rather than a chore. The simultaneous play keeps downtime low even at higher player counts, a real strength for a puzzle game. Balancing the different building types' scoring rules adds a nice layer of depth without bogging down the pace. It's a great choice for families or puzzle-game fans looking for something a little different from typical tile-layers.

What we like

  • Unique Cube Shaker gadget makes pattern generation fun and tactile.
  • Simultaneous play for all players keeps downtime low.
  • Works well as a solo puzzle or multiplayer competitive game.
  • Distinct scoring rules for each building type add depth to placement.

Keep in mind

  • Physical gadget component could be a durability or availability concern.
  • City-building puzzle theme is fairly abstract despite thematic tile art.
