About the game

Star Wars Villainous: Power of the Dark Side lets 2 to 4 players take control of iconic Star Wars villains, Darth Vader, Asajj Ventress, Kylo Ren, Moff Gideon, or General Grievous, each pursuing their own unique win condition. On a turn, players move their character around their personal board, take the actions available at that location, and refill their hand, while also using cards drawn from opponents' fate decks to sabotage each other's plans. Each villain has a distinct ambition system, whether channeling the Force, strategic leadership, or sheer luck. The asymmetric design means every villain plays and wins in a completely different way.

Hobbli's Notes

The Villainous system continues to shine here: asymmetry done right, where learning to both pursue your own plan and sabotage others' is the whole game. Star Wars fans will appreciate how faithfully each villain's win condition captures their character from the films and shows.

What we like

  • Asymmetric powers make every villain feel distinct.
  • Beloved Star Wars characters and theming.
  • Fate deck sabotage creates tense player interaction.
  • Moderate 50-minute playtime fits most game nights.

Keep in mind

  • Asymmetric balance can favor certain villains.
  • Take-that mechanics may frustrate newer players.
  • Requires learning several different villain rule sets.

Who it's for
