About the game
Senjutsu: Battle For Japan is a 1-4 player samurai dueling game where combatants build custom decks of ability cards and clash in fast, simultaneous-reveal combat. Choose one of four richly detailed samurai, each with distinct fighting styles, and construct a deck of attacks, blocks, and special moves to outwit your rivals. Miniatures and card-based deck construction combine for a tense, tactical duel that rewards reading your opponent as much as building the right deck. Wounds accumulate until one Samurai falls, leaving the victor standing. It's a striking blend of deck-building and head-to-head dueling wrapped in gorgeous production.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's team loves the tension of Senjutsu's simultaneous reveal combat -- every round feels like a mind game as much as a card play. The deck construction gives real replayability since your Samurai's fighting style can shift dramatically between duels. The miniatures and component quality elevate what could be a simple dueling game into something you want to display. It shines brightest in quick head-to-head sessions rather than the full 4-player free-for-all.
What we like
- Simultaneous-reveal combat creates genuine tension every round.
- Deck construction offers meaningful strategic customization.
- Beautiful miniatures and thematic samurai artwork.
- Fast-playing duels fit easily into a game night.
Keep in mind
- With more than two players, the head-to-head tension can dilute.
- Deck building before or between duels can slow pacing for newer players.
- Hidden movement/hand management may feel fiddly for casual groups.
Who it's for
Fans of tactical dueling card games and anyone who enjoys bluffing/reading opponents will love this; best for two players, ages 14+, looking for a punchy strategy showdown.
