About the game
In Maglev Metro, players build a futuristic magnetic-levitation subway system, laying transparent tiles that let routes overlap with rivals' tracks as they race passengers to their destinations. Robots upgrade your rail system's abilities, and unique goals help you maximize points across two distinct maps. It's a pick-up-and-deliver, tile-laying, engine-building game from designer Ted Alspach where efficiency wins the day. By game's end the board has transformed into a colorful modern subway map.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's editors love the transparent-tile trick: letting routes cross over each other is a small idea that makes the whole map feel alive. It's a satisfying mid-weight logistics puzzle with just enough tension between players without becoming combative.
What we like
- Innovative transparent tiles let routes overlap in a genuinely clever way.
- Robot upgrades add engine-building depth without excess complexity.
- Two unique maps boost long-term replayability.
- Solid solo mode alongside 2-4 player play.
Keep in mind
- Downtime can build up at higher player counts.
- Route planning may feel fiddly for newcomers to tile-laying games.
- Limited direct conflict for players who want more confrontation.
