About the game

Oltréé casts 2-4 players as Rangers of a fractured empire, tasked with rebuilding a fortress and protecting the people of their satrapy. A branching Chronicle unfolds through Incidents, Problems, and Events as players juggle their assigned mission against the story unfolding around them. Rooted in the French tabletop RPG of the same name, it emphasizes narrative choice and storytelling within a structured cooperative campaign. Six independent Chronicles are included, each playable without needing the others.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli admires how Oltréé translates a tabletop RPG's narrative richness into board game form without needing a game master. Vincent Dutrait's artwork gives the fortress and its Rangers real atmosphere. The Events and Incidents system keeps every playthrough of a Chronicle feeling personal and consequence-driven. Sessions can run long with heavier narrative resolution, so groups should be ready to settle in and read.

What we like

  • Rich narrative campaign rooted in a well-regarded French RPG.
  • Strong cooperative storytelling with meaningful choices.
  • Six independent Chronicles offer variety without requiring sequencing.
  • Evocative Vincent Dutrait artwork enhances the theme.

Keep in mind

  • Higher downtime while story and event resolution unfold (downtime grade C).
  • Heavy reading and narrative engagement can slow the pace for some groups.
  • Campaign structure asks for a real commitment across sessions.

Who it's for

Ideal for fans of cooperative storytelling and campaign games aged 10+, in groups of 2-4.
