About the game

In Cóatl, players compete to become the Aztec High Priest by sculpting the most beautiful feathered serpents from colorful plastic head, body, and tail pieces. On each turn, you either draft tiles from the shared central board or assemble your own Cóatl using pieces you've collected, guided by objective cards that reward specific color patterns. The game ends once a player completes their third serpent, with points awarded for fulfilled objectives. It's a tactile, visually striking abstract game built around drafting and pattern-building.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's editors love the tactile, chunky components of Cóatl, which make the abstract drafting-and-building puzzle feel genuinely satisfying to play. The objective-card system adds just enough strategic direction to keep choices meaningful. It's a great looking, easy-to-teach abstract game for groups who enjoy tactile puzzle play.

What we like

  • Tactile, colorful plastic components make building serpents satisfying.
  • Objective cards give clear direction while leaving room for creative choices.
  • Quick 60-minute playtime suits casual and family groups.
  • Attractive Aztec-inspired theme and art design.

Keep in mind

  • Component-heavy setup may take extra time to organize.
  • Abstract objective-matching may feel dry to narrative-focused players.
  • Limited direct player interaction beyond shared tile drafting.
