About the game
Botanik is a fast 2-player tile-drafting game where players build competing bio-mechanical plant machines, drafting and placing tiles into their workshop or exchanging tiles with the shared main workshop. Score points for grouping tiles by color and growing flowers atop your machine. From the Isle of Skye design team, it packs tight tactical tension into a quick 30-minute two-player duel. With modular setup and a clever exchange mechanism, no two games play quite the same.
Hobbli's Notes
We love how much tension Botanik squeezes out of a tiny box - every tile you take is a tile your opponent doesn't get, and the drafting puzzle stays sharp from start to finish. It's not flashy, but the tight two-player interaction rewards careful planning. A great "one more game" filler for gamers who like a bit of bite in their abstracts.
What we like
- Quick 30-minute playtime keeps the tension high without dragging.
- Clever tile-exchange mechanism creates constant tactical decisions.
- Low complexity makes it easy to teach but hard to master.
- Modular board setup keeps replays feeling fresh.
Keep in mind
- Strictly two-player, so it can't flex to larger groups.
- Abstract theme may feel thin for players wanting strong narrative immersion.
- Take-that elements can frustrate players who dislike direct interference.
Who it's for
Ideal for two players (ages 12+) who enjoy quick, sharply tactical abstract strategy games with a bit of head-to-head friction.
