About the game

Era: Medieval Age is the spiritual successor to Roll Through the Ages, evolving the roll-and-write formula into a roll-and-build experience. Players roll dice representing classes of medieval society and use three-dimensional components, walls, keeps, farms, and more, to physically construct their own unique city. Interaction comes through extortion, scorched earth tactics, and even disease events, keeping the medieval setting lively. By game's end, every player has a distinct, tangible city to show for their efforts.

Hobbli's Notes

Era: Medieval Age takes the roll-and-write concept and gives it wonderful, tactile physicality: building your city out of real pieces is deeply satisfying in a way flat sheets never are. Matt Leacock's push-your-luck dice system keeps tension high throughout. A clever evolution for fans of Roll Through the Ages looking for something more tangible.

What we like

  • Innovative 'roll-and-build' twist with real 3D components.
  • Solid solo mode alongside 2-4 player competitive play.
  • Push-your-luck dice rolling keeps tension high each turn.
  • Player interaction through extortion and take-that events adds spice.

Keep in mind

  • 3D components can be fiddly to assemble and store.
  • Take-that elements may frustrate players who dislike direct interaction.
  • Similarities to Roll Through the Ages may feel redundant to owners of that game.

Who it's for

Great for families and casual gamers (8+) in groups of 1-4 who enjoy push-your-luck dice games with a building twist.
