About the game
Dig Your Way Out casts players as prison inmates racing to be the first to complete their escape tunnel. You'll craft tools from salvaged materials, buy them with cigarettes, or simply extort them from other inmates: whatever it takes to reach the required tunnel points before your rivals. Success depends on tracking what others are holding, using memory to know who to threaten and who poses a real threat. Background cards grant powerful one-shot abilities and gang affiliations that can turn the tide when used at the right moment. Designed for 2-6 players, games run about 45 minutes.
Hobbli's Notes
An underappreciated blend of memory, bluffing, and light take-that aggression with a fun prison-break theme. The extortion mechanic creates memorable table tension, though it can occasionally tip into feel-bad territory for players singled out by the group.
What we like
- Unique memory-based deduction of opponents' hidden resources.
- Social extortion and gang mechanics create dynamic table tension.
- Background cards add variable replayability.
- Distinctive prison-escape theme stands out from typical bluffing games.
Keep in mind
- Heavy reliance on memory can frustrate some players.
- Take-that extortion mechanics can create negative feelings at the table.
- Relatively obscure title with a small player community.
Who it's for
