About the game
KeyForge: Call of the Archons introduces a revolutionary idea: every deck is completely unique, with no deckbuilding or boosters required. As an Archon leading a company of creatures, artifacts, and abilities from three Houses, you'll declare a House each turn and play freely from it, racing to collect enough Æmber to forge three keys before your opponent. Designed by Richard Garfield, this starter set includes two ready-to-play unique decks and everything two players need for fast, tactical duels. With no card costs, turns move quickly, and every game plays out differently depending on your deck's one-of-a-kind combination of cards.
Hobbli's Notes
KeyForge's core innovation, a truly unique, unbuildable deck for every player, remains one of the most interesting ideas in card games. It removes the deckbuilding barrier entirely and replaces it with the pure joy of discovering your deck's synergies as you play. Deck power can vary since you can't customize your own, but that unpredictability is also part of the appeal for many fans.
What we like
- No deckbuilding required: every deck is ready to play out of the box.
- Every Archon Deck is truly one-of-a-kind, adding novelty to each purchase.
- Fast-paced tactical decisions keep turns snappy.
- Quick to set up and teach to new players.
Keep in mind
- Strictly a two-player game with no built-in variants for more.
- Deck power level can vary since players can't customize their own decks.
- Ongoing variety requires purchasing additional Archon Decks.
Who it's for
Two-player card game fans ages 14 and up looking for fast tactical duels without deckbuilding overhead.
