About the game
Megaland reimagines the arcade dungeon crawl as a push-your-luck game from Ryan and Malorie Laukat. Each round, players place their character on a level tile, draw a treasure, then decide whether to bank their winnings or press deeper and risk taking damage from the round's monster. Treasures collected can be spent on quirky buildings, bowling alleys, hospitals, arcades, that grant one-time or ongoing bonuses. The first player to bank 20 coins ends the game and claims victory.
Hobbli's Notes
Megaland has a real arcade energy to it: the push-your-luck tension of deciding whether to keep going or cash out never gets old, and the building purchases give just enough long-term strategy to keep it from feeling purely random.
What we like
- Quick push-your-luck rounds keep the energy high.
- Video-game arcade theme appeals strongly to younger players.
- Variable building purchases add meaningful replayability.
- Simple rules make it easy to teach to new players.
Keep in mind
- Swingy damage rolls can feel unfair at times.
- Limited long-term strategy compared to heavier games.
- Early building purchases can create a runaway leader.
Who it's for
Great for families and casual groups aged 8+ looking for a fast, colorful push-your-luck game with light strategy.
