About the game
Set a Watch is a cooperative dice game in which four adventurers must clear nine besieged locations to stop the resurrection of an ancient evil called the Unhallowed. Each round, one hero rests at camp while the rest of the party stands watch, using dice and unique character abilities to battle an advancing line of monsters. Manipulating that monster line, deciding which threats to face first, forms the game's central puzzle. Survive all nine locations and the final horde to save the kingdom from darkness.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's team enjoys how Set a Watch distills cooperative dungeon-crawling down to a tight, dice-driven puzzle without heavy bookkeeping. The rotating camp/watch structure keeps every player engaged even when it's not their turn to fight. Its lighter footprint and quick 80-minute playtime make it an easy pick for co-op fans who don't want the sprawl of a full campaign game.
What we like
- Tight, well-designed cooperative dice puzzle.
- Strong solo mode with variable player powers.
- Manageable 80-minute playtime for a fantasy adventure game.
- Engaging rest/watch turn structure keeps everyone involved.
Keep in mind
- Can feel repetitive across the nine locations without expansions.
- Dice-based combat introduces variance some players may dislike.
Who it's for
Cooperative game fans (ages 13+) who enjoy fantasy dice-rolling puzzles, solo or with up to four.
