About the game

Kero is a real-time, two-player game set in a fuel-scarce future where two rival clans race to exploit new territories with their tanker trucks. Players tip their tanker-timer to roll a shared pool of dice again and again within a self-limited window, collecting resources while trying to avoid rolling too much fire. Meanwhile, the opposing player must hold their own tanker-truck steady, racing against the clock created by their rival's dice rolls. Collected resources upgrade camps, fund exploration of new territories, and ultimately determine which clan becomes the '2471 Badassest Clan.' The real-time tanker-timer mechanic makes for a frantic, tactile experience unlike most dice games.

Hobbli's Notes

Kero is a delightfully frantic real-time game that uses its tanker-timer gimmick to genuinely great effect, creating a unique kind of tension you won't find in a typical dice game. It's a tight two-player experience best suited to players who enjoy a bit of chaos and pressure rather than careful long-term planning. The barren post-apocalyptic theme is unusual and adds flavor, though the real mechanical hook here is the simultaneous, self-timed dice rolling.

What we like

  • Unique real-time, simultaneous dice-rolling tension.
  • Fast, frantic gameplay in about 30 minutes.
  • Tactile tanker-timer components add thematic flair.
  • Easy to teach and quick to set up.

Keep in mind

  • Real-time pressure can be stressful for some players.
  • Strictly limited to exactly two players.
  • Dice roll luck plays a significant role in outcomes.
