About the game
Photosynthesis casts players as competing forests, sowing and growing trees whose towering canopies race for sunlight. The sun rotates around the board each round, casting shadows that can stunt rival trees while your own carefully placed growth captures precious light points. Trees can be planted, grown through several distinct stages, and eventually harvested for victory points, all while jockeying for the best sun-facing position. Its striking layered tree pieces make the strategic battle for sunlight visually stunning as well as tactically satisfying.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's editorial team is consistently charmed by how Photosynthesis turns a simple concept, sunlight and shadow, into an approachable but genuinely clever area-control puzzle. The 3D tree components are a real showpiece on the table, adding to the appeal beyond pure mechanics. Shadow-casting can occasionally let an early leader snowball, which is worth noting for very competitive groups. Overall it's an easy recommendation for families and casual strategy fans wanting something visually memorable.
What we like
- Beautiful 3D tree components create a striking table presence.

- Satisfying puzzle of growth timing and light competition.
Keep in mind
- Shadow mechanics can let one player snowball into an early lead.
- Purely abstract theme may feel dry despite the pretty components.
